Future Strategy Research Division

  • Formulation of the city’s mid- to long-term future strategies and response to major municipal issues
  • Establishment of the Institute’s vision and mid- to long-term development plans
  • Planning and coordination of research projects
  • Management of research projects and publications, and evaluation and management of research performance
  • Public relations, operation of research and academic events, and external exchange and cooperation
  • Performance evaluation of the institutional head and institutional management evaluation, etc.

Attractive City Research Division

  • Research on urban planning and regeneration, and regional and supra-regional spatial policies
  • Research on urban landscape, livable residential environment policies, and urban infrastructure
  • Research on urban transport demand and systems, and public and green transport policies
  • Research on energy and consumption policies in response to the climate crisis
  • Research on sustainable urban resource management and creation of green environments
  • Establishment of systematic management plans for water, air, pollutants, and related areas

Advanced Industrial City Research Division

  • Research on regional economy, convergence, and new industry policies
  • Research on identifying new growth engines and employment policies
  • Research on local fiscal management and measures to improve the operational efficiency of public institutions
  • Research on entrepreneurship, SME development, and investment attraction policies
  • Research on alternative economic policies, including urban agriculture and the social economy

Inclusive City Research Division

  • Policy research to address local community issues, including polarization, social conflict, population, and social class
  • Research on administrative systems and plans in response to the Local Era, including autonomy and decentralization
  • Policies for the human rights and welfare of vulnerable groups, and for revitalizing communities and civil society
  • Research on cultural city operation, promotion of culture, arts, and sports, and civic cultural activities
  • Research on cultural industry development, content-related plans, and local culture development policies
  • Research on tourism policy development and ways to revitalize urban tourism
  • Research on enhancing citizens’ right to education, local education policies, and cooperative projects

Management Innovation Office

  • Management Planning Team: Operation of the Board of Directors and regulation management; organization and personnel; institutional management evaluation; employee performance appraisal; administrative affairs management, including general affairs, service, and welfare; property and goods management; administrative affairs and comprehensive audit; employee training; information disclosure, etc.
  • Fiscal Strategy Team: Budget formulation; securing operating contributions; budget execution and settlement; accounting and taxation; employee salaries and allowances; travel expenses; fund and severance pay management; contract work related to commissioned, entrusted, and subsidy projects, etc.

Co-Prosperity Development Research Center

  • Collection and analysis of data on co-prosperity development
  • Monitoring trends in national balanced development policy and local autonomy and decentralization policy
  • Policy research and support for co-prosperity development, and discovery and planning of co-prosperity development projects

AI Policy Research Center

  • Policy research and publication for revitalizing the regional AI innovation ecosystem
  • Policy cooperation on AI industrialization with related organizations within and outside the region
  • Accumulation and management of internal and external information and statistics related to studies of Gwangju and global cities
  • Provision of visualization services for indicators related to the Gwangju region
  • Information exchange projects with regional data-producing organizations, etc.

Public Investment and Economic Analysis Center

  • Response to preliminary feasibility studies for local governments
  • Pre-feasibility review of local investment and loan projects and evaluation of local fiscal projects
  • Feasibility studies for establishing district-funded and district-contributed institutions
  • Evaluation of local public enterprises and funded/contributed institutions, etc.

Disaster and Safety Research Center

  • Research on disaster and safety policies for Gwangju Metropolitan City
  • Research on urban infrastructure and citizen safety policies for responding to natural and social disasters
  • Projects to enhance local safety in Gwangju Metropolitan City
  • Exchange and cooperation projects related to urban safety, etc.

Regional Economic Education Center

  • Development and operation of economic education materials and programs tailored to conditions in the Gwangju region
